About The Inn

Wake Robin Inn opened its doors in 1899 as a different kind of Lakeville landmark — the Taconic School for Girls.

Fifteen years later, it became an Inn and was named after the Trillium wildflower. Its first innkeeper: Miss Jane Hunter, a former teacher at the School and a legendary hostess. Over the decades, the Wake Robin enjoyed the stewardship of owners who ran the Inn as a community-oriented family business, most notably the Chamberlain family.

Meanwhile, the Wake Robin became the destination for those seeking graceful lodging in the Connecticut Berkshires. Our illustrious guests have included Greta Garbo; Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., and Bette Davis. Rumors that Liberace slept here have not been substantiated.

In April 2002, the Inn changed ownership, triggering the most extensive upgrade in its history — and a revitalized, guest-focused commitment to services inspired by Miss Jane Hunter.
